The Sun Sentinel editorial on Dec. 20, headlined “Trump’s vile words prove Reiner was right,” was courageous. There’s no other word for it.
In an era when self-censorship is the only safe policy, Rob Reiner dared to speak out. Thank you, Sun Sentinel, for daring to stand up for our right to do so.
This is the free press at work. If democracy falls, as Reiner feared, the free press will be our last defense against submission.
Please stay strong.

Read it, really loud
I often read in the Letters to the Editor section how the Sun Sentinel is so unfair to President Trump.
I have a little advice for the MAGA faithful. Read the transcript of Trump’s nationally televised speech of Wednesday, Dec. 17.
He’s yelling at the American people. Read it to yourself out loud, really loud, like he did.
Would you vote for this guy again?
Fool me once … you know how the saying goes. The renaming of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts to the Trump-Kennedy Center was the last straw.
It’s time to invoke Article 25. He’s totally deranged.

What kind of human being?
In the Dec. 19 edition, reader Nancy Gasser wrote that Sun Sentinel coverage of Donald Trump is unfair (and she called the paper “an outrageous piece of garbage.”)
I don’t know where she gets her news that depicts Trump in a positive light. I get mine from various sources. The things I see Trump do every day are horrible in the minds of the majority of Americans.
If she, and like-minded people, believe otherwise, they have only to turn on the news or read his extreme comments on his social media. Why would a sitting president add plaques to the names of Democratic presidents, containing such terrible accusations and lies?
What kind of human being disparages a couple, murdered by their child, solely because they were critical of Trump? What despicable leader of the free world pardons criminals found guilty by juries of their peers just because they support him? Who calls female journalists names directly to their faces while saying nothing to male journalists? Who is so thin-skinned that he spends more time suing his critics than he does running the country?
If this is the season of giving thanks, mine is that I’m thankful not to have as my neighbors those who defend him.

Unfit and unstable
Wow! She should get a grip. She is obviously afflicted with Sun Sentinel Derangement Syndrome.
Fortunately, there is treatment for it. Stop reading the paper. Those of us plagued by a similar disease caused by an unfit and unstable president have found that a refusal to pay attention to anything he says works wonders! If, however, you are truly addicted, you should immediately avoid all news reporting that’s inconsistent with your own opinions.

Consider the source
With regard to various letters to the editor trashing this newspaper, calling it biased and anti-Trump, I can only say that everyone has a right to express their opinions. I’m happy that these people read the Sun Sentinel and get their news from a source other than Fox News.
