The tragedy of the Florida bear hunt is that it is so horrific and unnecessary.
As in the Western U.S. and suburban Orlando’s Seminole County, there are ways of peacefully living with these magnificent creatures. I don’t know what’s behind the cruel decisions of the Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission and why they persist, despite the public outcry. It would be nice to see behind the curtain as to why they don’t listen or transparently communicate their reasons.
They should consider taking the word “conservation” out of the FWC’s name.

Just plain mean
There has to be a better way to control bears than to shoot them with guns or bows and arrows and hunt them down with dogs.
Frightening them to death while their baby cubs are killed or left to fend for themselves and die is so cruel, old-fashioned and just plain mean.
It turns my stomach and makes me ill to think of what these bears will endure for no reason other than cruelty.
There must be a humane way to control bears.

In defense of Trump
Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is alive and well at the Sun Sentinel.
Your editorial of Nov. 28 entitled “Trump repeatedly disgraces America” shows your bias toward President Trump by using dubious facts to justify your bias.
How can the Sun Sentinel back up the members of Congress who orchestrated a seditious video prodding present-day military personnel to disobey orders of their superiors?
When confronted by the press to give examples of “unlawful” orders, they could not name any.
It was a typical partisan attack to slime the president. Your animus against Trump and his associates shows no bounds.
Chuck Lehmann, Delray Beach
A matter of opinion
Some Sun Sentinel letter-writing readers have a curious notion about the concept of “opinion.”
When they read the opinion pages, they seem annoyed that the editors and columnists have opinions — just as they do. That the editors’ opinions differ from their own is, in their minds, evidence of corruption, bias, derangement and closed-minded anger.
They seem to wish for an editorial stance that confirms their viewpoints.
News Flash: Editors have their opinions, and readers have theirs. Sort it out, people. That’s what makes reading a newspaper fun (and even informative).

Trump’s brand of harmony
Richard Klitzberg of Boca Raton wrote a letter to the editor full of unsubstantiated assertions that concluded with the possibility of shredding the harmony the U.S. has known for 150 years.
I’m not sure of the 150 years part. Our nation is almost 250 years old and the Civil War ended 160 years ago. But I think I figured it out. The 150 years of harmony in question fits nicely between the end of the Civil War and the beginning of Trump’s first term.
I have to agree with Mr. Klitzberg: Trump and harmony cannot possibly co-exist.
Bob Chaban, Boynton Beach
