Donald Trump’s presidency is built on one distraction after another.
The demolition of “the people’s house” and unnecessarily sending troops into blue cities and states are two. If anyone thought Project 2025 was a hoax, look around. It’s the start of the dismantling of a free society, where all religious beliefs, sexual orientation and free thought are to be outlawed.
We should all be afraid. We must vote Republicans out in the next election at the federal, state and local levels. It’s time to fight back — before it’s too late.

Impeachable offenses
Trump keeps blowing up boats in the waters off Venezuela.
He has killed 64 people and captured three survivors. These are illegal. The only two times the president can use lethal force require authorization from Congress (Trump has none) or an imminent danger to our country requiring immediate retaliation (which does not exist).
Trump has no authority to kill people for no reason. The normal procedure is stop the boat, search for illegal drugs and arrest the occupants — due process.
Trump’s flagrant disregard for law and use of ruthless violence are clearly impeachable offenses. Republicans in Congress are accessories to these crimes. By not acting, they are complicit. Killing people for no apparent reason is the new norm. It is a very sad day for those of us who stand for truth, justice and the American way.

Praise for Scott Maxwell
Many thanks for the column, “Florida loves anti-gay Christian schools. But Muslim ones?” in the Sun Sentinel by Scott Maxwell.
Republicans have done all they can to demolish free, quality public schools. Beyond the corrupt cash grab, it’s clear how much they love the “uninformed voter,” as the felon in the White House points out.
They are against cancellation until anyone breathes a word of criticism against their newly sainted martyr, Charlie Kirk. They’re against religious discrimination until Muslims also want to feed at the public trough.
They’re against corruption, unless it’s Trump, whose “meme coin” scam allows foreign governments to bribe him, directly or indirectly. Keep speaking out and speaking up!

End the shutdown
The government is shut down by the inability of the Congress to pass a resolution extending government funding, which has already been approved by a majority of our elected representatives and the president.
Democrats want SNAP funding to be exempt from the effects of their filibuster while Republicans want military pay exempted. But individual relief for these groups will merely reveal other worthy or essential groups, such as air traffic controllers, that also need to be funded. In reality, all budget areas need to be funded.
Now’s the time for senators to abandon the filibuster and allow the body as a whole to vote on the continuing resolution to reopen the government. Anyone who really believes in democracy, under which majority rule is a basic principle, would favor letting the Senate at least vote up or down on a continuing resolution.

UM’s coach must go
How many games can a UM football coach mismanage and lose, without suffering repercussions?
Another defensive timeout with the opponent facing fourth-and-long yardage, giving them a chance to regroup after a sack?
There are 20 seconds left in regulation, one timeout left and “one of the best” college quarterbacks on the field. But instead of throwing two passes to reach field goal range and win, you take a knee and limp into overtime?
This is at least the third time UM Coach Mario Cristobal has performed this way in clutch moments in games he could have properly managed and won. Time for this coach to go!
