I am an advocate of free speech, but a line must be drawn separating acceptable dialogue from divisive misogynistic vitriol.

Charlie Kirk had a massive following, but much of what he preached was laced with hate, male domination and racial bias.

Yes, he should be remembered, but not idolized. We certainly should not rename streets in his name at 40 public universities in Florida.

Kirk deserves the honor

The Sun Sentinel Editorial Board decried the idea of naming 40 roads after Charlie Kirk (“A Charlie Kirk road, everywhere. Had enough?” Oct. 21).

I think he deserves such an honor. Murdering someone because of what he said will not silence that person. It only makes his voice louder.

Your editorial highlighted racist and antisemitic things he said, but one word I did not read was the word liar. That’s why many on the left hated Kirk: He never lied.

Thank you for mentioning that College Avenue in Davie (on the Broward College campus) will be one of the 40 streets to be named after Charlie Kirk. By chance, I drive it to work every day.

Don’t fall for GOP spin

To hundreds of thousands of federal employees, the shutdown is creating financial havoc.

But realistically, to the rest of us — those not directly impacted — it’s more political theater than personal tragedy, so we may be excused for giving it little thought. This is a mistake.

Democrats say Republicans must extend Obamacare subsidies before they will reopen the government. Republicans say Democrats must reopen government before they will discuss extending the subsidies.

Many average Americans just listen to their party’s spin and blame the other side. If the subsidies are not extended, according to the Congressional Budget Office, more than 20 million Americans will see their monthly health premiums rise from an average of $800 a month to over $2,000.

Republicans in Congress are holding your money hostage. They won’t give it back if Democrats capitulate. Democrats are holding firm, to keep your health insurance premiums from more than doubling.

The shutdown drags on. Don’t believe the GOP spin! It is your money they’re playing with.

Joel Speiser, Delray Beach

Trump is a disgrace

The childish, idiotic AI post of Donald Trump as an Air Force pilot, defecating on No Kings Day protesters, was an excellent example of how he feels about most voters in this country. He and fellow Republicans only care about themselves.

Never in our history has a president shown such disrespect to his constituents. It’s Trump’s agenda to quell Democrats’ voices any way he can, most importantly by suppressing voting rights. He wants this country to have a one-party system, just as in other dictatorships. He’s a disgrace to democracy. No Kings in America!

Let them go without, too

No matter which party they belong to, no senator or member of Congress should receive any pay during the government shutdown. Maybe then they will realize how the rest of us common people live.
