Re: Seminole Tribe sues Lennar over 552 ‘defective’ new houses across Florida (news article, Sept. 29)
Lennar Homes, the mega-builder, is permitted to continue doing business and tying everything up in long legal delays while members of the Seminole Tribe of Florida are without homes.
The reason we have disreputable businesses who are able to bilk normal citizens out of vast sums of money is because they are permitted to stay in business while they are in litigation over fraud. For me, where there is smoke, there’s fire.
Shut them down until they are found to be not guilty and put the executives in jail if they are found guilty. Enough is enough.

Food recalls cause heartburn
As a student at Florida Atlantic University’s School of Social Work, I am writing to share my growing frustration with the increase in food recalls at Walmart.
Like many families, we do not qualify for WIC or SNAP, so I shop there for its convenience and affordability of buying food and non-food items in one place.
Over the past few months, I have noticed an increase in food recalls from frozen shrimp to ice cream, salads, cheese and, most recently, pre-packaged meatballs and pasta. These are everyday items that most people purchase, which are now potentially putting us and our families at risk.
What are my options if I continue buying food at Walmart? Should I Google every item before adding it to my cart? Eat in ignorance? Make a plea to establishments to ensure their food items are free from chemicals and toxins?
We have choices. I’m not bound to Walmart, so while it’s convenient, I may have to consider being inconvenienced and possibly spending more elsewhere.

No health care for ‘illegals’
When will Democrats get it through their thick skulls that most Americans are against illegal aliens receiving health care benefits?
Most Americans want illegal aliens deported. Nevertheless, Democrats asking for $200 billion for health care for illegals is totally insane. For that, they shut down the government.
One dollar for illegals is unacceptable. They do not belong here. Americans owe them nothing. Democrats are prioritizing illegals over Americans, and that’s why Donald Trump was elected.
Trump always puts Americans first. In the meantime, California Rep. Maxine Waters could be in hot water for admitting that Dems forced the government shutdown to get health care for illegals.

Who’s paying for all this?
One thing I feel is missing in the debate over the removal of property taxes.
Florida residents vote on the line items of their tax. We have a say on things like spending on schools, solid waste management, fire-rescue services and much more.
If real estate taxes are eliminated, do we then have to beg the governor for money for services?People need to think deeply about the cause and effect of how policy changes really affect their day to day life.

Confronting climate change
It should not take catastrophic hurricanes like Milton, Helene, and Debby for people to act against the rising effects of climate change. Scientists have been warning that hurricanes, tropical storms and even heavy rains are being made worse by climate change.
Climate-induced events take a devastating toll, claim many lives and cause billions in property damage. Everyone talks about the cost to rebuild homes, businesses and infrastructure, but there’s more to it than money.
The annual conference by Sarasota’s Climate Adaptation Center (CAC) will zero in on the impacts of Climate Change on Biodiversity on Nov. 13, 2025. Leading scientists and biodiversity experts will explore how warming is reshaping Florida’s ecosystems and will share insights on how biodiversity loss affects everything from agriculture to tourism and how we can adapt.
