Beneath the warmth and scenic charm of our community, loneliness lingers in the lives of far too many—a quiet contrast that reminds us appearances don’t always reflect reality. In a world that moves fast and feels constantly connected, many still experience a deep sense of emotional disconnection. This paradox of being surrounded yet disconnected has contributed to high levels of loneliness, particularly among older adults.

The U.S. Surgeon General has declared loneliness and isolation a public health epidemic, with effects equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day! Recognizing this crisis, I believe the antidote lies in culture and community and in the timeless Jewish value that no one should be left behind. That belief drives everything we do at the Adolph & Rose Levis JCC Sandler Center.

Our mission is simple: to create an environment where people can gather, share experiences, and form lasting relationships. For older adults, maintaining social ties can be challenging, but it’s essential. Research shows that over one-third of U.S. adults—nearly 37.4%—experience moderate to severe loneliness. In Palm Beach County, where nearly 25% of residents are age 65 or older, the need for meaningful connection is especially urgent.

Fostering connection is at the heart of our work. Through rich cultural programming and lifelong learning, we offer outlets for creativity, self-expression, and personal growth—all while creating opportunities for authentic human interaction. Whether it’s a book club that sparks conversation, an art lecture that inspires, or a film discussion that opens minds, our offerings serve as bridges for connection, belonging, and vitality.

One of our members, a recent widow in her 70s, shared that attending a live theatre performance at the Sandler Center gave her “a reason to get dressed in the morning and a reason to laugh again.” Stories like hers remind us that meaningful engagement doesn’t just fill time, it fills lives with purpose.

Cultural arts programs bring people together around shared passions in art, literature, music, theater, and film. Our diverse adult education classes—from current events to discussions about the human experience—invite participants into dialogue, reflection, and support. It’s not just about attending an event, it’s about finding connection through cultural enrichment.

Whether you’re seeking community or looking to help others find it, the Levis JCC Sandler Center is a vibrant and vital sanctuary where connection takes root.

Join us – If you’re new to the area or ready to re-engage, explore our programs and discover where you belong. One experience can open the door to many connections.

Invite a friend – Know someone who might be feeling isolated? Extend an invitation. Sometimes, a single gesture can change someone’s day—or their life.

Support our mission – Help us reach those who need it most. Your participation, advocacy, and generosity fuel our ability to create a more connected, compassionate community. We are grateful for the support of donors and partners who help make our programming possible and we welcome others who want to join us in expanding our reach and impact.

Volunteer your time – Be a bridge for others. Whether you’re greeting guests, assisting with events, or offering a listening ear, your presence makes a difference.

Be a connector – Share our programs, invite your neighbors, and help us spread the word. You never know who’s waiting for a place to belong.

Loneliness may be a quiet struggle but together, we can be the louder response. At the Levis JCC Sandler Center, every smile shared, every friendship forged, every story told helps build a stronger, more connected community, and a more vibrant and thriving South Palm Beach County.
