Dozens of congregants from B’nai Israel in Boca Raton headed to their local Walmart on July 20 to join in on the second annual “Supermarket Sweep” hosted by the temple. The event, which is sponsored by the Kantor Family Center for Justice, is inspired by the classic game show. Participants were given a list of essential grocery items, including canned goods, toiletries, and pantry staples, and tasked with finding them throughout the store. All of the collected items were donated to families facing food insecurity and used to help support local organizations addressing hunger.

The event raised over $2,000 in donations, most of which will help stock the Little Free Pantry at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to donating food, volunteers had the opportunity to learn about ongoing Social Action initiatives and deepen their understanding of the needs facing the greater Boca Raton community. “We were able to bring our whole family and show them a mitzvah,” said Marni Hamberg, who participated in the event with her husband and children.
