David Matthew Hoffman OBITUARY
David Matthew Hoffman OBITUARY
David M. Hoffman, 58, of Plantation, Florida, unexpectedly passed away on November 23, 2025.
David was born in Dayton, Ohio, on August 21, 1967, to Carl V. and Anita M. Hoffman. He grew up in South Florida and attended Pope John Paul II Academy in Boca Raton. He later studied at Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina and earned his AA from Palm Beach Junior College in West Palm Beach.
For the last four years, Dave worked as the Dockmaster at Marina Bay in Fort Lauderdale, bringing wit, humor, patience, and an occasional off the wall, out of nowhere joke to everyone who met him. He spent more than 30 years in the yachting industry, beginning his career in Naples, Florida. His love for the water started early—around age 12—when he and his brother, Joe, received a Boston Whaler for Christmas. Dave took the captain’s seat instantly and never really surrendered it; the family quickly agreed he was the preferred skipper.
Dave loved tennis, golf, the Dolphins, and a well-earned Captain and Coke. Dave celebrated his August 21 birthday with his cousin, Ken Hoffman and Ken’s daughter, Susan. They dubbed themselves the “Trifecta” which will live on in family lore (infamy?). Known for his sharp wit, easy humor, and generous spirit, Dave will be remembered most for the way he loved—deeply, loyally, and without hesitation—his family and his many friends. Although his life here on earth ended way too early, Dave lived a full life and made an abundance of friends at each stop in his journey.
David is preceded in death by his father, Carl V. Hoffman, and his nephew, Bradley V. Denslow. He is survived by his mother, Anita M. Hoffman; siblings Stephen V. Hoffman (Jacqueline), Sandra C. Denslow (Russell), and Joseph V. Hoffman (Kim); nieces and nephews Ilyssa R. Marks (Matthew), Tyler M. Denslow (Danae), Austin Megna (Alexis), Nick Hoffman, Samantha D. Ford (Aaron), and Zane C. Denslow; and his cherished grand-nieces Sloane, Parker, and Avery, and grand-nephew Asher.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2026 (date to be announced). Arrangements are by Fred Hunters Funeral Home. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have reached out with love and support.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make contributions in Dave’s name to Friends of Our Florida Reefs at www.FloridaReef.org.
