The coming week looks to be peppered with periodic showers and thunderstorms in South Florida, but should not be quite as wet as last week, the National Weather Service said Monday.
“In general, it’s not looking as stormy as it was last week,” NWS meteorologist Sammy Hadi said. “The majority of the rain will be falling across inland areas.”
Tuesday morning should see a bit of sunshine mixed with coastal showers, giving way to cloud cover and afternoon thunderstorms migrating inland.
Forecasters warned of rounds of heavy rain coupled with poor drainage. “Localized flooding will be the primary concern through the period, with the possibility that some areas may see repeated rounds of heavy rainfall over short periods of time,” the weather service said.
King tides, too, could coincide with heavy downpours, but rain along the coast should be less heavy. “We’ll have our typical thunderstorms,” said Hadi, “but they should be focused on inland areas.”
Cloud cover through the week could actually keep things a tad cooler, with daytime highs maxing out in the upper 80s and evening lows in the mid-70s.
Rain chances later in the week and through the weekend drop a bit to 40% to 50%, but scattered afternoon and evening showers should continue.
There is currently a tropical system forecast to travel to the east of the Bahamas near the end of the week. Hadi said there could be some peripheral moisture from that system, but it’s generally too early to tell what the impacts will be.
