Gov. Ron DeSantis announced this week that he has appointed three people to the New College of Florida Board of Trustees.
Urban Meyer, the University of Florida’s former head football coach, is the only new appointment. DeSantis reappointed Mark Bauerlein, an English professor, and Debra Jenks, a lawyer.
Meyer, currently an analyst for FOX Sports, won UF two national championships in 2006 and 2008. He also worked as the head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Ohio State. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this year.
DeSantis also appointed Chad Mizelle to the University of South Florida Board of Trustees. Mizelle previously served as Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Chief of Staff.
DeSantis reappointed Michael Carerre, a former executive; Rogan Donelly, the president and CEO of the drinkware company Tervis; and Lauran Monbarren, who helps lead an environmental remediation firm.
The State Board of Education has a new appointment, too. Erika Fritz-Ochs is the program manager for UF’s Lastinger Center for Learning. She has also served as an education policy consultant and a teacher.
Her husband, Jared Ochs, is DeSantis’ deputy chief of staff.
The appointments are subject to confirmation by the state senate.
